Echoes in Purgatory I, SCI Muncy
Echoes in Purgatory is a collection of writings by women/men who are serving a Life Sentence Without Parole. Read their words, then listen quietly and you will hear their cry for their God given “Right to Redemption.”
… Life without the possibility of parole is the other death sentence …
My name is Marie Scott. I’ve been incarcerated for over forty-two years now with a life-sentence – the other death penalty. I came to prison for murder because I was codependent. Today I teach women about codependency and how you can lose your life over it. I’ve been a peer facilitator for the majority of my time. I have a degree, with a major in sociology, and I’m the editor of my newsletter, C.O.P.I.N.G. (Children of Parent Inmates Needing Guidance). I wrote a bill that called on state agencies to study the problems and needs of these children. Today we have resources for them. One way to stop mass incarceration is, saving these children before they set foot on the conveyor that turns them into fuel for Jim Crow’s Machine of Mass Incarceration.

Women Serving Life Without Parole in Pennsylvania …
There are approximately 200 women serving life; some were sentenced as teenagers and some were commuted from death and many are in their 4th decade of imprisonment. Women have been routinely denied commutation over the last 30 years and most have abandoned their only hope of release … life sentenced women have in many cases, exhausted their resources in the free world and need help from new friends, community groups and schools. Excerpt from pamphlet created by Ellen Melchiondo (ellenmelch@gmail.com), an Official Visitor with the PA Prison Society. For up to date
